IRISH MUSIC DUBLIN

Having played together for more than 18 years, the Merry Ploughboys have emerged as one of the best known and admired traditional groups from Dublin, with an electric onstage chemistry that few acts ever achieve.

The Merry Ploughboys know Irish music almost inherently. From an early age the band were regulars at sing-songs and sessions frequented by some of Ireland’s best known and prolific singers and musicians.

As professional entertainers since 1999, they have had the unique opportunity to study first hand from many of the best acts in Irish music today. When it comes to Irish music, the band are truly professionals.

Their job is to entertain and they never disappoint. Audiences can expect anything from fast-paced foot-stomping ballads to humorous songs and sing-along boisterous numbers. Mixed with an onstage wit to match, The Merry Ploughboys have become a must-see for countless thousands of visitors to Dublin. Their sound comes from powerfully backed, precise three-part harmonies, varied instrumentation and a strong appreciation for the history and progression of folk music.

They are also talented songwriters with an ear for “timeless” songs. To date, the band had four CDs and a DVD to their credit. Since 1999, the band have run their own traditional music venue in Dublin at the foothills of the picturesque Dublin Mountains.

Since that time, many musicians have been invited to play alongside the core five members of the band and their show can feature a varied range of intruments including banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bodhrán, uilleann pipes, whistles, bazouki, guitar and bass guitar.

The Merry Ploughboys are also very involved with Irish dancing and have put together an original music composition and dance choreography to feature in the show. One of Irelands best known Irish dancing schools works closely with the band. The Merry Ploughboys are best known for their authentic, enthusiastic and fresh approach to traditional ballad singing. The combination of stage banter, manly harmonies and passionate choruses create a unique repertoire that appeals to both Irish and international audiences.

A key part of every night is that the entire audience is involved in the show. No two nights are identical and this keeps the authentic feel to the show.
